It is described as a flattened cone, about 2,000 feet (some say 1,500) in height, very rocky, its sides steep and rugged, and the soil neither deep nor rich. Capt. Mangles says its is now quite barren, though at the north-eastern foot of it there are some pretty olive-grounds. 42,43; Jos 19:26; 1Sa 15:12; 2Ki 2:25; Jer 46:18; Am 1:2; 9:3the prophets of Baal.22:6; 2Pe 2:1; Re 19:20prophets of the groves.15:13; 16:33; 2Ki 13:6Though {ashairah} certainly denotes in some place a grove, yet it is equally certain, that in others, as here, it must signify an idol; and it is thought by learned men to be the same as Ashtoreth, or Astarte the Syrian Venus. eat at Jezebel's table.19:1,2; 2Ki 9:22; Re 2:20 gathered.22:9 How long.De 4:35; 2Ki 17:41; Zep 1:5; Mt 6:24; Lu 6:13; Ro 6:16-221Co 10:21,22; 2Co 6:14-16; Re 3:15,16opinions. or, thoughts. if the Lord.39; Ex 5:1,2; Jos 24:15,23,24; 1Sa 7:3; 1Ch 17:26; 2Ch 33:13Ps 100:3answered.Ge 24:50; 44:16; Job 40:4,5; Mt 22:12,34,36; Ro 3:19; 6:21 I only.19:10,14; 20:13,32,35,38; 22:6-8; Ro 11:3Baal's prophets.19,20; Mt 7:13-15; 2Ti 4:3,4; 2Pe 2:1-3 23 answereth by fire.38; Le 9:24; Jud 6:21; 1Ch 21:26; 2Ch 7:1,3and said.2Sa 14:19It is well spoken.
