Genesis 32
1Aeth Jacob ymlaen ar ei daith hefyd, a dyma angylion Duw yn ei gyfarfod. 2Pan welodd Jacob nhw, meddai, “Dyma wersyll Duw!” Felly galwodd y lle yn Machanaîm ▼▼32:2 h.y. dau wersyll.
. Jacob yn paratoi i gyfarfod Esau
3Yna dyma Jacob yn anfon negeswyr at ei frawd Esau yn ardal Seir yn Edom. 4“Fel yma dych chi i siarad gyda fy meistr Esau,” meddai. “Dwedwch wrtho, ‘Dyma mae dy was Jacob yn ei ddweud: Dw i wedi bod yn aros gyda Laban. Dyna ble dw i wedi bod hyd heddiw. 5Mae gen i ychen, asynnod, defaid a geifr, gweision a morynion. Dw i'n anfon i ddweud wrthot ti yn y gobaith y gwnei di fy nerbyn i.’” 6Pan ddaeth y negeswyr yn ôl at Jacob dyma nhw'n dweud wrtho, “Aethon ni at dy frawd Esau, ac mae ar ei ffordd i dy gyfarfod di. Mae ganddo 400 o ddynion gydag e.” 7Roedd gan Jacob ofn am ei fywyd. Rhannodd y bobl oedd gydag e, a'r defaid a'r geifr, yr ychen a'r camelod, yn ddau grŵp. 8“Os bydd Esau yn ymosod ar un grŵp,” meddyliodd, “bydd y grŵp arall yn gallu dianc.” 9Gweddïodd Jacob, “O Dduw fy nhaid Abraham a'm tad Isaac. Ti ydy'r Arglwydd ddwedodd wrtho i, ‘Dos yn ôl i dy wlad dy hun at dy deulu. Bydda i'n dda i ti.’ 10Dw i'n neb, a ddim yn haeddu'r ffaith dy fod ti wedi bod mor hael a ffyddlon i'r addewid wnest ti i dy was. Doedd gen i ddim byd ond ffon pan es i oddi cartref a chroesi'r afon Iorddonen yma. Bellach mae digon ohonon ni i rannu'n ddau grŵp. 11Plîs wnei di'n achub i o afael fy mrawd Esau? Mae gen i ofn iddo ymosod arna i, a lladd y gwragedd a'r plant. 12Rwyt ti wedi dweud, ‘Bydda i'n dda i ti. Bydd dy ddisgynyddion di fel tywod y môr – yn gwbl amhosib i'w cyfri!’” 13Ar ôl aros yno dros nos anfonodd Jacob rai o'i anifeiliaid yn rhodd i Esau: 14200 gafr, 20 bwch gafr, 200 dafad, 20 hwrdd, 1530 cameles oedd yn magu rhai bach, 40 buwch, 10 tarw, 20 asen a 10 asyn. 16Dyma fe'n rhoi'r anifeiliaid mewn grwpiau ar wahân yng ngofal ei weision. “Croeswch yr afon o'm blaen i, ond cadwch fwlch rhwng pob grŵp o anifeiliaid,” meddai wrthyn nhw. 17Ac aeth ymlaen i ddweud wrth y gwas fyddai'n arwain y grŵp cyntaf, “Pan fydd fy mrawd Esau yn dy gyfarfod di ac yn gofyn, ‘I bwy wyt ti'n perthyn? Ble wyt ti'n mynd? Pwy biau'r anifeiliaid yma?’ 18dywed wrtho, ‘Dy was Jacob piau nhw. Mae'n eu hanfon nhw yn anrheg i ti syr. Mae Jacob ei hun ar ei ffordd tu ôl i ni.’” 19Dwedodd yr un peth wrth yr ail was a'r trydydd, a'r gweision oedd yn dilyn yr anifeiliaid. “Dwedwch chi'r un peth wrth Esau. A cofiwch ddweud hefyd, ‘Mae dy was Jacob ar ei ffordd tu ôl i ni.’” 20Roedd Jacob yn gobeithio y byddai'r anrhegion yn ei dawelu cyn i'r ddau gyfarfod wyneb yn wyneb. Roedd yn gobeithio y byddai Esau yn ei dderbyn wedyn. 21Felly cafodd yr anifeiliaid eu hanfon drosodd o'i flaen. Ond dyma Jacob yn aros yn y gwersyll y noson honno.Jacob yn ymladd gyda Duw
22Yn ystod y nos dyma Jacob yn codi a chroesi rhyd Jabboc gyda'i ddwy wraig, ei ddwy forwyn a'i un deg un mab. 23Ar ôl mynd â nhw ar draws dyma fe'n anfon pawb a phopeth arall oedd ganddo drosodd. 24Roedd Jacob ar ei ben ei hun. A dyma ddyn yn dod ac ymladd gydag e nes iddi wawrio. 25Pan welodd y dyn ei fod e ddim yn ennill, dyma fe'n taro Jacob yn ei glun a'i rhoi o'i lle. 26“Gad i mi fynd,” meddai'r dyn, “mae hi'n dechrau gwawrio.” “Na!” meddai Jacob, “wna i ddim gadael i ti fynd nes i ti fy mendithio i.” 27Felly dyma'r dyn yn gofyn iddo, “Beth ydy dy enw di?” “Jacob,” meddai. 28A dyma'r dyn yn dweud wrtho, “Fyddi di ddim yn cael dy alw yn Jacob o hyn ymlaen. Israel ▼▼32:28 h.y. Yr un sy'n ymladd gyda Duw, neu, Duw sy'n ymladd.
fydd dy enw di. Am dy fod ti wedi ymladd gyda Duw a phobl, ac wedi ennill.” 29Gofynnodd Jacob iddo, “Beth ydy dy enw di?” “Pam rwyt ti'n gofyn am fy enw i?” meddai'r dyn. Ac wedyn dyma fe'n bendithio Jacob yn y fan honno. 30Felly galwodd Jacob y lle yn Peniel ▼▼32:30 h.y. Wyneb Duw.
. “Dw i wedi gweld Duw wyneb yn wyneb,” meddai, “a dw i'n dal yn fyw!” 31Roedd yr haul yn tywynnu ar Jacob wrth iddo adael Peniel ▼▼32:31 Hebraeg, Penuel.
. Ac roedd yn gloff o achos yr anaf i'w glun. 32(Dyna pam dydy pobl Israel hyd heddiw ddim yn bwyta'r gewyn wrth gymal y glun. Maen nhw'n cofio'r digwyddiad yma, pan gafodd Jacob ei daro ar ei glun.)
