Dafydd yn pechu drwy gynnal cyfrifiad
(1 Cronicl 21:1-27) 1Dro arall roedd yr Arglwydd wedi digio'n lân gydag Israel. Dyma fe'n gwneud i Dafydd achosi trwbwl iddyn nhw trwy ddweud wrtho am gyfri pobl Israel a Jwda. 2Felly dyma'r brenin yn dweud wrth Joab, pennaeth ei fyddin, “Dw i eisiau i ti gynnal cyfrifiad o holl lwythau Israel, o Dan yn y gogledd i Beersheba ▼▼24:2 Dan … Beersheba Roedd Dan wrth droed Mynydd Hermon yn y gogledd ar y llwybr masnach i Damascus. Roedd Beersheba 23 milltir i'r de-orllewin o Hebron ar y prif lwybr masnach i'r Aifft.

Ond syr, pam fyddet ti eisiau gwneud y fath beth?” 4Ond roedd y brenin yn benderfynol, er gwaetha gwrthwynebiad Joab a chapteiniaid y fyddin. Felly dyma nhw'n mynd ati i gyfri pobl Israel, fel roedd y brenin wedi dweud. 5Dyma nhw'n croesi Afon Iorddonen, ac yn dechrau yn Aroer, i'r de o'r ddinas sydd yng nghanol y dyffryn. Yna dyma nhw'n mynd i'r sychnant ar diriogaeth Gad, ac i dref Iaser. 6Ymlaen wedyn i ardal Gilead, a tref Cadesh ar dir yr Hethiaid, yna Dan ac Ïon, a rownd i Sidon. 7Yna i lawr i dref gaerog Tyrus a holl drefi'r Hefiaid a'r Canaaneaid, ac ymlaen i gyfeiriad y de nes cyrraedd yr holl ffordd i Beersheba yn anialwch Jwda. 8Cymerodd naw mis a tair wythnos cyn iddyn nhw gyrraedd yn ôl yn Jerwsalem, ar ôl teithio trwy'r wlad i gyd. 9Yna dyma Joab yn rhoi canlyniadau'r cyfrifiad i'r brenin. Roedd yna wyth can mil o ddynion dewr Israel allai ymladd yn y fyddin, a pum can mil yn Jwda. 10Ond wedi iddo gyfri'r bobl, roedd cydwybod Dafydd yn ei boeni. A dyma fe'n dweud wrth yr Arglwydd, “Dw i wedi pechu'n ofnadwy drwy wneud hyn. Plîs wnei di faddau i mi Arglwydd? Dw i wedi gwneud peth gwirion.” 11Erbyn i Dafydd godi'r bore wedyn roedd yr Arglwydd wedi rhoi neges i Gad, proffwyd y llys: 12“Dos i ddweud wrth Dafydd, ‘Dyma mae'r Arglwydd yn ei ddweud: Dw i'n rhoi tri dewis i ti. Dewis pa un wyt ti am i mi ei wneud.’” 13Felly dyma Gad yn mynd at Dafydd a dweud, “Pa un wnei di ddewis? Tair blynedd o newyn yn y wlad? Neu tri mis o ffoi o flaen dy elynion? Neu tri diwrnod o bla drwy'r wlad? Meddwl yn ofalus cyn dweud wrtho i pa ateb dw i i'w roi i'r un sydd wedi f'anfon i.” 14Dyma Dafydd yn ateb Gad, “Mae'n ddewis caled! Ond mae'r Arglwydd mor drugarog! Byddai'n well gen i gael fy nghosbi ganddo fe na gan ddynion.” 15Felly'r bore hwnnw dyma'r Arglwydd yn anfon haint ar wlad Israel wnaeth bara am dri diwrnod, a buodd saith deg mil o bobl o bob rhan o'r wlad farw. 16Ond wrth i'r angel bwyntio ei fys at Jerwsalem i'w difa, dyma'r Arglwydd yn teimlo'n sori am y niwed oedd yn cael ei wneud. A dyma fe'n rhoi gorchymyn i'r angel oedd wrthi'n difa'r bobl, “Dyna ddigon! Stopia nawr!” (Ar y pryd roedd yr angel yn sefyll wrth ymyl llawr dyrnu Arafna y Jebwsiad.) 17Pan welodd Dafydd yr angel yn taro'r bobl, dyma fe'n dweud, “Arglwydd, fi sydd wedi pechu a gwneud y drwg! Wnaeth y bobl ddiniwed ▼▼24:17 bobl ddiniwed Hebraeg, “defaid”

18Y diwrnod hwnnw dyma Gad yn mynd at Dafydd a dweud wrtho, “Dos, a chodi allor i'r Arglwydd ar lawr dyrnu Arafna y Jebwsiad.” 19Felly dyma Dafydd yn mynd a gwneud beth roedd yr Arglwydd wedi ei ddweud wrth Gad. 20Pan welodd Arafna y brenin a'i weision yn dod ato, dyma fe'n mynd ato ac ymgrymu o'i flaen â'i wyneb ar lawr. 21“Pam mae fy meistr, y brenin, wedi dod yma ata i?” meddai. A dyma Dafydd yn ateb, “I brynu dy lawr dyrnu di. Dw i eisiau codi allor i'r Arglwydd i stopio'r pla yma ladd y bobl.” 22Dyma Arafna'n ateb, “Syr, cymer beth bynnag wyt ti eisiau. Cymer yr ychen i'w llosgi'n aberth, a defnyddia'r sled dyrnu a iau'r ychen yn goed tân. 23Dw i am roi'r cwbl i'm meistr, y brenin. Gobeithio bydd yr Arglwydd dy Dduw yn derbyn beth wyt ti'n wneud.” 24Ond dyma'r brenin yn ei ateb, “Na, mae'n rhaid i mi dalu'r pris llawn i ti. Dw i ddim yn mynd i gyflwyno aberthau i'w llosgi i'r Arglwydd sydd wedi costio dim byd i mi.” Felly dyma Dafydd yn prynu'r llawr dyrnu a'r ychen am bum deg darn arian. 25Wedyn adeiladodd allor i'r Arglwydd yno, a chyflwyno arni aberthau i'w llosgi ac offrymau i gydnabod daioni'r Arglwydd. A dyma'r Arglwydd yn ateb ei weddi a stopio'r pla oedd yn mynd trwy'r wlad.

How do I do a word study?

When you click on a word, the detailed lexicon opens with:
'Vocabulary' Bibles link the translation to Greek & Hebrew. So far, only some Bibles have this vocabulary feature. They are shown in the Bible select screen with the letter 'V'.
It is the number of occurrences of a word in the Bible. Click on it to see them all in the selected Bible(s).
This reveals different forms for some words and names. These details are often interesting to scholars, eg the word 'beginning' in Genesis.
